Edinburgh Airport is seen to be Scotland’s fastest growing airport. It was officially opened by her majesty the Queen in 1977 and is part of BAA plc.

Though Edinburgh Airport only has one terminal it has two runways it is estimated that 6.3 million passengers fly out to the 55 destinations available from the 30 operating airline companies.

By 1999 Edinburgh Airport surpassed the five million passenger mark and it is expected that eight million more travelers will fly out of Scotland’s capital by 2009. It is assumed that passenger figures are going to increase by 350,000 every year due to the advent of the Scottish Parliament.
