Stansted is one of the fastest growing airports in the world and is currently the third largest airport for international scheduled flights in the UK. Though it began as a war-time base in 1942 it wasn’t until 1985 that Stansted finally got approval to handle up to 8 million passengers a year and be recognized as London’s third airport.

Stansted Airport has only one terminal and runway but it covers 105 destinations with 26 airline operators providing a service for the 16 million passengers that are estimated to travel from England’s capital.

Stansted Airport Parking:

A new terminal was added in 1991 but due to the increasing demands that were imposed upon it this fast growing London airport came under a great deal of pressure. Therefore, a proposed £60 million extension to the terminal building was carried out and was finished in April 2002. It is now estimated that Stansted Airport will be capable of serving 25 million passengers every year by 2010.

Travel Instructions for Stansted Airport

Stanstead airport is clearly signposted within the vicinity of London as well as the surrounding counties that house any major roads.

Travelling from the North
Take the M62 to connect with the A1(M) at the Ferrybridge roundabout and then follow the A1 until the M11. Having taken the M11 exit at Junction 8 and follow the signs to the airport.

Travelling from the West
Depending on how far west you’re traveling from you can either take the M6 then the M40 or the M4 to connect with the M25. Travel along the M25 in a clockwise direction until the exit for the M11 is available. Connect on to the M11, exit at Junction 8 and follow the signs to the airport.

Travelling from the South
Use any major road to connect to the M25, travel in a clockwise direction until the exit for the M11 is available. Connect on to the M11, exit at Junction 8 and follow the signs to the airport.
